Book Design

I spent many years art-directing alt newsweeklies. One lesson I learned quickly is that a designer in that milieu doesn’t get to have a signature style—every issue, every cover story, deserves a treatment entirely its own. The same holds true for every book, and a book designer has to be prepared and equipped to do justice to every project in a visual language that seems the best fit. I take it as a point of pride that one with no foreknowledge can’t look at any given cover of mine and say with certainty whether I did it.
